I bought this lamp because I trusted the Foscarini brand for perfection. While I love the lamp, I found an air bubble in the glass, which is very disappointing, especially that the return policy makes returns an impossibility.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Every aspect of this table lamp is beautifully considered and executed. the photos do not show that the glass shade is solid, forming a concave disc that diffuses the uplight as well as the rest of the shade diffuses the side light: an excellent detail for anyone who tires of looking down at a table lamp and seeing nothing but bare bulbs. however, the beauty and finish detail reach an abrupt and even violent end when we consider the power cord. what the photo also does not show is the cord itself -- very rigid, transparent zip-cord -- which exits from the center post of the lamp, destroying the lines established by the triangular base. this cord is very short, so short that the dimmer / switch will not reach the edge of any table, unless the lamp is perched on the very edge of the table. this dimmer / switch is the standard floor dimmer / switch that foscarini uses: a big, ugly, round plastic thing in "1970s Brown" that, despite its enormous mass, doesn't even weigh enough to counteract the springiness of the cheap, inflexible power cord: the dimmer / switch will not lie flat. additionally, the power cord exits the dimmer / switch in the same direction it enters, making its use even more awkward. from the switch to the plug is a length of the same cheap wire, measuring only three feet. so, maybe 5 feet of cord with a massive floor switch dangling just off center. lovely! so, you have here a beautiful lamp with a hideous and unusable cord/switch combo. i was assured by ylighting that this is in fact what foscarini intends. i'll be violating my warranty by replacing the massive brown disc with a trim, light-coloured in-line dimmer capable of managing 3000 watts.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

This Foscarini lamp looks even better in person than it does in photographs... The bulb is a little tricky to insert, but I would highly recommend it.

Foscarini

Founded on the Murano island in Venice, Italy in 1981, Foscarini started out creating blown glass-based lighting. They eventually expanded into other materials (the first being the Havana in 1993), and moved in 1994 to the Marcon area of Venice, into a building that reflected the modern aesthetic of their contemporary lighting. Success led to brand stability and swiftly growing name recognition.
