Tear drop Modern Living Room Pendant Lighting

Why We Love Living Room Pendant Lighting

Living room pendant lighting is great for mimicking the effect of having a large chandelier without taking up quite so much space. This makes living room pendants ideal for smaller spaces that cannot accommodate larger lighting. Even if you have plenty of space, you can still use living room hanging lights to accent larger light fixtures. With so many different styles available in this category, you can easily find the perfect pendant lights to suit your decor. Here's what you need to know about these versatile lights and how to use them in your living room and throughout your home.

Which Kinds of Pendants Work Well in the Living Room

Many people like to make their living rooms formal areas, and you'll find plenty of elegant living room pendant lighting options that suit this style. If you prefer a more casual vibe, try pendants with a rustic aesthetic. You'll also find living room hanging lights that resemble paper lanterns, which are also great for casual atmospheres. If you can't imagine not having a chandelier, try flanking it with two smaller, complementary pendant lights to create a framing effect. You could also use multi-pendant lights as standalone chandeliers.

Living Room Pendant Light Ideas for Every Style

Pendant lighting designers create these types of lights in a wide range of styles to suit just about any interior aesthetic. For example, Nelson Bubble Lamps is known for its gorgeous paper lanterns, while Visual Comfort's living room hanging lights are classic and elegant. Louis Poulsen offers living room pendants that are geometric and colorful, while dweLED's designs are like beautiful pieces of modern art. SONNEMAN Lighting follows a contemporary style, using crisp lines and sleek, airy construction. Before you settle on a particular pendant light for your living room, browse through the offerings from several lighting companies to find a style that works best for you.

How to Choose the Best Living Room Pendant Lights

To select the best living room pendant lighting for your space, start by determining the appropriate size for your lights. Larger living room pendants work best in rooms with high ceilings so you and your guests won't bump your heads on low-hanging lamps. If your ceilings aren't as high as you would like, try mounting your living room hanging lights over a coffee table or end table to keep them out of your way while still providing the illumination you need.

Other Considerations

In many homes, especially those with larger living rooms, pendant lighting won't be enough to provide light for the entire room. Try adding a strip of track lighting with a pendant at either end, or add table lamps to fill in any areas that aren't getting enough light. In addition to your living room's ceiling lighting, you can also put in picture lights to highlight pieces of art on your walls. Try not to think about each light individually, but rather how they all work together as a whole. Finally, for movie nights with friends where the right amount of light is key, consider placing your lighting on a dimmer control.
