Looks like it costs a whole lot more
The up/down and OUT lighting provided by this fixture really makes our standard tract home look like a custom home. Because the light plays both up and down the wall (stucco in our instance) it creates very interesting light and shadows and the two bands provides visual interest and a gentle cast that reduces the "blind spot" created by traditional up/down wall sconces. The neighbors have complemented us repeatedly on how nice this fixture looks and we are extremely pleased with the design. New for 2014 is the incandescent/LED lighting option - ours is a couple of years old and only offered HALOGEN lighting, which can be a bit more expensive over the long run. This new design looks to be an improvement on the "guts" of the light, while retaining the strength of the original design.

Back in 1965, Jacob Sperling came to Los Angeles to study aeronautical engineering. Inspired by a job working for a lighting retailer, he turned his mechanical skills to the manufacture of lighting fixtures, building them in his garage and selling them out of his station wagon. In 1970, he brought brother Zvi on to help, and Maxim Lighting was born.
