This small openings allow light to shine through in narrow beams, giving the entire fixture a surreal, sparkling quality. The bottom of the shade is capped with an Etched glass diffuser (with center finial) which provides a wash of ambient lighting over an area or surface of interest.
The creative and often humorous mid-century modern aesthetic of George Kovacs (1926-2007) made a lasting impression on contemporary lighting.
