Glo-Ball Floor Lamp

I've owned a Mini Glo-Ball tabletop lamp for years and love it. In my new home I needed a floor lamp that would look beautiful near a Saarinen table while also providing enough diffuse illumination to allow dining without using ceiling lights. The Glo-Ball in Medium was the ideal choice - it is elegantly simple and just the right height at 69", allowing it to disperse light evenly in all directions. The focal point is the of course the rounded frosted glass top, but each element of the lamp complements the whole beautifully. The ingenious construction allows the base to emerge from within the glass ball, leading down with a slight taper at the bottom into the base. The base is a powdered grey metal (thankfully not chrome!) and so the softness of the illumination is reinforced by the softness of the materials. The dimmer is substantial but not overwhelming in size, and moves easily by using your foot. It is a beautiful, functional work of art!

I took a lot of time deliberating this purchase because of the cost. While I was awaiting delivery I told my daughter how much it cost and she was disturbed that I would spend so much on a lamp. But I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It's not just a light-producing object. It's a well-crafted piece of art that makes me happy when I look at it. It's very solid and produces a lovely light. I shall be sure to will it to my other daughter when I die : )

I really like the design. I did dock 1 star for the unwieldly dimmer switch (black?..really?), but it seems like this same switch is used across several high end lamp brands. The price is a stumbling block, but there is no sense arguing about that. The quality seems terrific, and the center of gravity is low enough I don't have to worry about kids or pets knocking it over. The quality of the light is great, there is enough diffusion to out out huge amounts of light without blinding someone as they catch the globe in their vision.

The quality jumps out at you, made in Italy versu China shows. Heavy solid perfection can't be beat. And it looks great.

The Glo-Ball floor lap is true elegance. Sometimes when you get something physically it can be a bit of a letdown compared to the way it appeared on the web. Not in this case: it really rises to the occasion. It fits perfectly with my recently purchased round bed.
