Does a great job of framing

The framing projector is an optics accessory that attaches to the standard 007 track light fixture and allows for projection of an adjustable rectangular light beam to neatly illuminate artwork, for example. The two parts come separately and are designed as a slip-collar assembly. The two I got were way too tight and I had to spend a significant amount of time sanding the mating surfaces to get them to fit together. Keep in mind they also need to slide them apart to replace the lamp, so you don't want to force them together The projected beam shape is adjusted by manipulating 4 shutter vanes which takes some fussing with to get right. Since they are free to move in any direction, it's easy get one edge right only to have it slip while adjusting another edge, but they can adjust for parallax, which is pretty cool. The final result is not as precise as you might want but you can soft focus the edges by rotating the lens.

This product is not very accurate and is rather difficult to manage framing and focus. While it may seem an inexpensive solution, it really can't do the job like its more expensive alternative. You get what you pay for.

Definitely good value for money. Works well at our distance of 9.5 feet. Pretty good control over the shape of the beam. One caveat: an LED narrow flood bulb in the 007 fixture by itself seemed to work fine, but when we added the framing projector it created a honeycomb pattern, so we're back to halogens.

I bought this to illuminate a photograph from aout 15 feet away. The products works as advertised, and nothing else exists in the price range from what I have found. The only issue is that the focusing is not very precise, so it is difficult to get a sharp edge to the light beam. Also, the shutters don;t move very smoothly, so it takes some time to adjust them exactly to the size of your photo. But, for 50 bucks it's pretty good.
