The "gold" look is a bit cheap, and the base is pretty large and thick. It's not elegant. Also, the dangling link to turn on the light - which is one of the pretty touches that drew me - is missing. The long pin headed by a knob is what one turns to turn on the lamp. Originally the retailer offered to exchange the whole unit but after I sent pics, they told me the lamp worked - albeit the dangle function was misrepresented - so it would not be exchanged. I will be wary of this brand as well as this retailer. Trying to upload pics but says invalid file type.
