Sign InIn the early '70s, Tim Copeland began making hardwood cider presses in his garage in East Corinth, Vermont. By 1976, cider presses had given way to butcher block and Adirondack furniture, and Copeland's garage became too small. So Copeland Furniture moved into a manufacturing facility in Bradford, Vermont, for the exclusive production of furniture made out of solid natural hardwood.
Since then, Copeland Furniture has continually updated their processes to make the most of that resource (harvested within 500 miles of their facilities) and meet changing design tastes. Today that means modern and minimal, with strong Arts & Crafts, Shaker and Scandinavian design influences.
There's just something wonderful about a solid, well-made piece of wood furniture. You can feel it in the overall heft of the piece, the smooth feel of its surface and glide of the drawers. Then there's the material itself. With its varied tones and unique grain patterns, natural hardwood brings warmth and texture to even the most minimal of furniture designs. And it is also the ideal medium with which to craft more intricate curves and sculptural angles. Copeland Furniture has been working with solid natural hardwood for nearly forty years, and their creativity with and mastery over it is evident in every piece of modern furniture they produce.
Copeland Furniture is greatly influenced by the natural beauty of their Vermont surroundings as well as the values of preservation and stewardship that all Vermonters share. As a testament to their environmental focus, Copeland was awarded Silver Exemplary Status by the Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC), and is also a winner of the American Home Furniture Alliance's (AHFA) Sage Award for Environmental Excellence.
With the Audrey dining room set, clean mid-century modern meets the exotic curves of Asian design. The trestle-style dining table has a distinctive double-X base that creates a visual sense of tension while giving diners plenty of unobstructed legroom. (This base is duplicated in the Audrey bench and buffets.) You can also mix and match seating by throwing in the Estelle Chair, with a complementary tapered back and wide-legged stance.
