“Do you guys make those big-ass fans?” When a little company then named HVLS Fan Co. started up in 1999, selling huge ceiling fans for industrial spaces like cattle barns, this was a question they got asked a lot. Enough, in fact, that a few years later they changed the name to Big Ass Fans and the rest, they say, is history.
The company started out solving a need for dairy barns, where cows needed to be comfortable to produce more milk. So it’s somewhat appropriate (emphasis on ‘somewhat’) that the company’s mascot is a donkey named Fanny; so called after a real donkey from Kentucky who lives forever in the Big Ass Fans logo.
