Black Bathroom Accessories

The opposite of adding color, the color black is a bold and inventive choice for decorating the bathroom (and any room) with. Black can work to one’s advantage, however when done correctly just like any other color or design choice. An entire room dedicated to the color black or darker grays and browns can create a moody look that is appealing to some. Adding warm light fixtures to black décor can create a cozy feel like sitting next to a fireplace in the dark. Like anything, though, it is possible for too much black to overwhelm, so make careful considerations about the look before diving in.

Black bathroom accessories can stand out in the space if sitting on countertops or other surfaces such as shelves. Accessories are often considered to be toothbrush holders, toilet paper holders and soap dispensers, but they can also include towels and mats. A mat is a subtle way to bring more of the theme to the room as people tend to not look down right away, which means it adds to the décor without them realizing it at first.

If the black color is working well as a theme in the bathroom, consider continuing that theme in the rest of the house so that there is a consistent look.

Other Considerations

Before tackling the subtle nature of bathroom accessories, make sure to determine which black bathroom lighting will be used. Black lighting will match the accessories on the counter and the mat on the floor (and towels hanging or folded on the wall), providing a sense of symmetry to the space as a black object is on each surface in the room. Another thing to consider is the use of black curtains in the bathroom to prevent light from coming in. Different from blackout curtains, curtains with a black color will be on the inside, creating that cozy and protected feel as warm lighting spreads throughout the room and slightly brightens it.

Also keep in mind the storage requirements in the room. Shelves or a storage cabinet can be used to hold accessories, towels or extra toilet paper, or act as a place for displaying items such as plants.
