The LZF Air Table Lamp was Irish designer Ray Power's idea, who, from the start was fascinated by the huge potential offered by Timberlite. He started to manipulate the wood and explored its wide range of possibilities to create tri-dimensional objects. In this case the result was a conical stand and shade set which suggests visual and technical stability.

Flimsy and cheap looking

I was very excited about this lamp, it looks fantastic online however in real life it looks cheap and feels very flimsy. You can tell it is made of cheap plastic and it does not give off pleasant light as the bulb essentially sticks out the top. This is definitely not a $555 lamp. If I had paid $75 (tops) I might be satisfied with it and willing to play around with it to reconfigure the wiring so that the bulb doesn't stick out. Needless to say this was returned.

It's real wood. You can see the light shine through. Really cool and I always get asked about it in my dining room. It is flimsy though and doesn't look as good from top down since you can see the big bulb. I recommend putting it a bit higher up than where you will be sitting to look at it.

Something that isn't obvious from the product description is that the material is not opaque. The light is visible through the cylinder at the top for a very beautiful and striking effect. These lamps are absolutely gorgeous on my bedside tables. My only complaint is that the shipping packaging was inadequate. The heavy bases detached from the wood. Fortunately without damaging the rest of the lamp and it only took a little superglue to reattach the two parts. But for something this expensive that is inexcusable.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Cute light, looks good, gives off a surprizing amount of light, but needs to be in a safe location away from children, bumps, bangs & the like - fragile
