Dropping via a short chain from a stepped disc canopy, a single steel stem descends to a round hub, holding out simple open sockets amidst a series of slender glass rods. Radiant when lit, it resembles nothing so much as a perfectly round sea urchin, adding natural notes to the fixture’s surroundings.

Back in 1965, Jacob Sperling came to Los Angeles to study aeronautical engineering. Inspired by a job working for a lighting retailer, he turned his mechanical skills to the manufacture of lighting fixtures, building them in his garage and selling them out of his station wagon. In 1970, he brought brother Zvi on to help, and Maxim Lighting was born.
