Derived from a 1971 partnership between Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù, the Parentesi Suspension Floor Lamp from FLOS takes its name from the parenthesis symbol, mirroring the nickel-plated tube that slides along a floor-to-ceiling steel cable. The cable extends up to 157", offering adjustable height options. The lamp head, made of injection-molded black elastomer, moves vertically along the cable, while a switch provides easy operation. Experience versatile lighting with a touch of industrial chic.

Achille Castiglioni was a genius of design. The Parentesi Floor Lamp has always made me smile - it's simplicity is still amazing and style fresh. I've used them in lieu of wall sconces and as seating area reading lights.

The product received was the exact product I had been hoping for; however, the product was not packed in a box big enough for its size and thus some of the components of the light burst from the box within shipping and according to UPS, elements of the lamp had been rolling around the truck whilst in delivery. I was not pleased to see a few scrapes on the base of the lamp because it had burst from the box and was bouncing freely around the UPS truck. I hope in the future lamps will be shipped in more appropriate boxes.

Classic Industrial Design

When one sets up this lamp one sees why it is part of the permanent collection of NYC's MoMA. The tension-based design is industrially artistic and is minimally instrusive on sight-lines. The only negative is that the bulb is VERY bright and NON-directional. I would not recommend this lamp for "spot" lighting, but more fore indirect or higher ceiling-to-floor lighting effects. I have several lined up like a floor screen and the effect is dramatic. I would recommend this lighting solution to anyone.

FLOS

Visionary designers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, along with Tobia Scarpa, founded FLOS in 1962 in Merano, Italy aiming to revolutionize the way people experience light. Headquartered today in Bovezzo, Italy, FLOS embodies the spirit of modern Italian design, combining groundbreaking experimentation with artistic innovation—famously exemplified by their iconic cocoon lighting fixtures made by spraying resin onto steel frames.
