A handblown glass piece designed in a process that rewards happy mistakes and discoveries. Master glassblowers in the Czech Republic do the impossible, wrapping slender tubes of glass in the SkLO Wrap Pendant so artfully they mimic the soft cord they hang by. Husband-and-wife design duo Karen Gilbert and Paul Pavlak enjoy creating without a clear result in mind. This free-flowing mode of design translates to delightful surprises to not only Gilbert and Pavlak but you, the viewer. Czech glassmakers only heighten the sense of discovery as they hand blow and wrap glass tubes to create one jaw-dropping feat of craftsmanship. A fabric-wrapped and hand-tied cord adds more gestural contours to the piece, creating an artful silhouette that shape-shifts from one angle to the other. The bulb inside the dynamic contours radiates through as warm ambient light. The resulting glow sharpens up the silhouette with cutting highlights.

SkLO

Located in Northern California, SkLO is the brainchild of artist Karen Gilbert, architect Paul Pavlak, and Czech-native Pavel Hanousek. The three met in Healdsburg in 2009, and after discovering a unanimous passion for hand-blown glass (sklo means “glass” in Czech), they decided to create a multi-disciplinary studio focusing on glass lighting and accessory design.
