Martinelli Luce

The Martinelli Luce Story

Martinelli Luce has created innovative designs for more than 50 years, including the iconic Pipistrello table lamp. Known for drawing inspiration from geometric shapes and the natural world, the brand specializes in unique lamps and pendant lighting for residential and commercial spaces. Martinelli’s designs are every bit as functional as they are artistic, with many newer options being UL rated for use in damp spaces.

Martinelli Luce

Martinelli Luce was founded in 1950, at the height of the economic boom, in the center of Lucca, in a basement that Elio Martinelli—the company's founder—called the “Laboratory.” It is where his creativity flourished, giving life to simple objects rich in personality. More than 70 years after its foundation, Martinelli Luce is an Italian lighting company known all over the world and one of the leading brands in the Italian design industry. Success has come thanks to years of continuous experimentation, research, technological development, innovation and collaboration with well-known designers, all factors that have kept the brand in line with market demands and above the trends of the moment, becoming a point of reference in the field of decorative and lighting technology over the years.

Like Father, Like Daughter

Between the 1960s and 1970s, Elio Martinelli established himself as one of the most influential designers on the Italian industry and from the beginning succeeded in transmitting his passion and creativity for light to his daughter Emiliana, who, in addition to being an architect and designer, has headed the company together with her son Marco, the company's CEO, for many years.

Collaborators and Innovators

Over time, the company has collaborated and continues to collaborate with well-known designers such as Gae Aulenti, Sergio Asti, Paola Navone, Karim Rashid, Marc Sadler, Studio Natural, Brian Sironi and many others. Some of these products have contributed to the history of lighting and hold a place in contemporary art or design history museums such as the MoMA in New York and the Triennale in Milan.

Historic Yet Forward-Looking

Martinelli Luce has been listed in the special Register of Historic Brands of National Interest since 2023, when it was acknowledged as a historic Italian company. While full of history, the company looks to the future, rich of years of experience in the world of decorative and technical lighting. For some years now, Martinelli Luce has also been part of Be Original Americas, a non-profit committed to informing, educating and influencing manufacturers, design professionals and consumers on the economic, ethical, and environmental value of authentic design.
