Lodge Chair

I was concerned about the flat look of the molded plywood sides but in person--these are lovely and quite substantial chairs. The molded plywood with walnut veneer offers a rather sensual texture, my fingers keep touching the wood grain on the rolled arms, which have a lovely curve. The pillows are firm, but comfortable, the color is complementary to any modern decor. Bought two of them to help anchor a larger room, and their lower back with contrasting fabric and wood style give them subtle presence and understated style. Many visitors have remarked on them and asked where I found them.

I'm a huge mid-century modern fan and I "visited" this chair at Lumens off and on for over a year. I loved its look and comfort but wasn't sure it would fit into the MCM look I was intending for my apartment refurnishing. Finally, I went for it and I couldn't be happier. This is now officially my favorite chair. It occupies a corner of my bedroom, which -- accompanied by soft light, a little foot stool, and a stack of books -- has become the epicenter of my evening's "meditation." The chair is wide enough and supportive enough to let me slouch or sit up. The height is perfect: I neither fall into it or struggle to get out. The arms are the real surprise. You might think the leather-covered cushions would be the real source of luxury, but those wide arms are smooth and inviting and contribute to the total comfort of the chair through their sturdiness and breadth. I sit and read and just feel relaxed each night before bed. It's my last stop of the day before sleeping. Its design fits MCM without being a throw-back. The "lodge" look overcomes the rustic connotations of the word. It is a sophisticated, comfortable, well-made, fabulous chair and I am its biggest fan. I hesitated on the price, but a Gus Modern sale put it within reach. Highly recommended!
