Could Michael Graves be wrong?
I've had an Alessi teapot for over 20 years. That is until it was recently fried. Now, I have a new one and it's more fabulous than the last.
kettle with whistle
Friend: New kettle not as good as Graves' one from the 1970s or 80s. You have to put on and take off the whistle. It can burn you, if you don't do it right. What was wrong with the flip up whistle? Not all that convinced that the new design is as attractive as the old one, also smaller in volume. Bring back the old one. Best, Ed Quill
Way cool tea kettle
Works very well - whistle is strong and easily heard. Kettle sits on our island cook top and is a piece of art too
Well designed, practical - great purchase

This is one of the first tea kettles I leave out all the time and like to look at in my kitchen. It is large, fits my gas burner well, and is durable.
kettle with bird whistle by alessi
I was thrilled that I was able to get this designer tea kettle on sale. I previously bought one as a wedding gift when it was not on sale. I lucked out. But the sales person told me I will receive it by a certain time and it took much longer to send
Alessi
These household goods are born somewhere quite exquisite, somewhere between manufacturing and art. In the last 90 years, three generations of Alessi (Giovanni, Carlo, Alberto) have creatively led the company, through changes in materials (brass to stainless steel) and styles (from formal to clever and modern).
