The architectural and artistic backgrounds of husband-and-wife design duo Paul Pavlak and Karen Gilbert come through clearly in the blown Czech glass composition of the Drape Skirt Multi-Light Pendant from SkLO. It's a showstopping piece taking hold of one's attention in its lovely figure and seductive light. The delicate and sculptural quality of the skirt design stresses Karen Gilbert's work as a craft artist. Its cords move delicately in a circular arrangement with a feeling of lightness. Handblown glass shades made in the Czech Republic cap off the piece in charming globe forms. To give them a personality of their own, the mouth of the globes is polished up with a fiery torch. A flip of the switch generates a wondrous aura as the globes burst into warmth-filled shapes of ambient light.

SkLO

Located in Northern California, SkLO is the brainchild of artist Karen Gilbert, architect Paul Pavlak, and Czech-native Pavel Hanousek. The three met in Healdsburg in 2009, and after discovering a unanimous passion for hand-blown glass (sklo means “glass” in Czech), they decided to create a multi-disciplinary studio focusing on glass lighting and accessory design.
