The Ombra Pendant from Niche features a rounded, spherical glass form built around a hand-applied color transition that gradually transitions into clear glass below. The technique requires that color be applied by hand to a finished glass surface, giving the shade a layered, gradual quality. An exposed bulb glows at the center of the sphere, its light passing through the clearer portion of the glass and highlighting the shift in tone from top to bottom. A slim metal stem keeps the glass suspended with minimal visual weight.

Niche

Niche was founded by accident. In 2003, Jeremy Pyles and Mary Welch were in the process of opening a home furnishings store in Manhattan, called Niche, but couldn't find inspiring display lighting for the storefront. So Pyles designed a glass pendant and had it custom blown in New York (where all Niche products are still hand-blown).
