With a name translating to “exquisite” in Finnish, the Ihana LED Linear Suspension from Marset earns its name with a balanced design pairing graphic outlines and artfully crafted forms. Designer Joanna Laajisto created the piece as an answer to her office’s space constraints. Laajisto’s design philosophy is built on functionality, quality, and aesthetics. This piece can factor on its own over a table surface or serve as a part of a grander composition. A slim metal structure of lines gives the piece a precision that’s easy on the eyes. The lines direct one’s gaze to the opal-blown glass shades below. These shades produce subtly varied contours that are enhanced by the warm down light streaming through them.

Marset

Marset was established in 1942 as a family business, not making lighting, but as a foundry. That foundation in casting metals did eventually segue into lighting design, however, with Francisco Marset formally establishing Marset Illuminacion in 1965. The decades spent experimenting with and molding metal translated well into the contemporary lighting industry: manipulating all kinds of materials to create unexpected, atmospheric lighting effects.
