Short for ‘essential,’ the Esse Table Lamp from Plato Design frames its lamping inside charming tactile geometry, crafted to direct light and ease its glare. The piece’s refined personality speaks to the shift in production and design brought on during the pandemic. The limitation of the time informs the table lamp’s minimalist silhouette and monolith construction. Made from tactile concrete, cylindrical shapes make up the piece’s base and shade. The open slot base lets one’s wired lamp holder slot in with no equipment. The top cavity of the cylinder eases glare and directs ambient light in the opposite direction.
