adorne Cast Metal Wall Plates

The cool factor is definitely high with these switches, plugs and plates! Easy to install, work great and most excellent to look at!

I began tentatively, but have now been replacing all of my light switches with the Adorne ones because they really create a beautiful visual impact and, importantly, are a complete system -- 4-way switches, USB chargers, GFCI ouitlets, etc. I have used the plastic wall plates in some rooms for a contemporary look, chose the oil-rubbed bronze (this review) for more traditional rooms. These are lovely, understated, and provide a very finished, upscale look. The visual effect is much softer than the plastic plates and 'dressier'. My husband liked these so much that he wants me to replace some of the bronze plastic plates I have used in other areas, despite the much higher cost. Note, these plates are a soft charcoal with subtle red highlights on the picture frame part of the edge, the closest plastic plate is really the 'graphite', which is softer and more matte than the 'bronze'. Interestingly, the plates look good with the white switches as well as the magnesium. The one downside - the cast metal plates are much stiffer than the plastic ones and if your walls are not perfectly flat, these can be challenging to snap onto the metal backplate. They often require adjusting the tightness of the backplate at each screw until it finally works.

I have installed these plates (the brushed stainless with polished nickel accents) in a bath with a mix of chrome and satin nickel fittings, as well as in a bedroom with satin nickel furniture legs but polished nickel lamps and brushed brass door hardware. I tested two other options -- the unframed brushed stainless steel and satin nickel plates -- before deciding. The mix of polished and brushed finishes pulls together the multiple metal finishes in my rooms best, and they are very elegant. The polished nickel detail is a beautiful touch and makes the plates look more 'finished' than the other two, but still very contemporary. I used them with the magnesium switches, which don't really bring out the best in the plates. I think a darker switch, like the graphite wall plate color, would be prettier. Note that in my experience, these plates are much easier to install than the cast metal oil-rubbed bronze plates, which are stiffer and tricky to snap into the backplate on walls that are not perfectly flat. They are stiffer than the plastic plates, but more like those as far as installation.
