Highlighted by its linear arrangement, the Ambit Rail Lamp from Muuto iterates on the classic lampshade with its handmade contemporary construction. With the piece, designers Gabriella Gustafson and Mattias Ståhlbom of Stockholm’s TAF Studio strived for a lampshade that was welcoming and recognizable, built with a keen attention to detail. Its shades are handspun in aluminum then painted and polished by hand as well. Evenly spaced along a tubular rail, the lamps produce a clean downlight that neatly ties kitchens areas together when suspended over long dining tables and counters.
Muuto is firmly rooted in Scandinavian design, hand-picking the best designers from Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. Their name is inspired by the Finnish word “muutos,” meaning “change” or “new perspective,” and it is this concept that embodies the spirit within each and every piece. Their fearless, sometimes exclusive, use of raw materials such as bulbs, plastics, and metals, represents the great diversity, innovation, and character of true Scandinavian design.
