Droog Design. Droog, an Amsterdam-based design firm, was established back in 1993 when product designer Gijs Bakker and design historian Renny Ramakers put together a collection of soberly-designed pieces made out of found items and other industrial materials. The collection was entitled "Droog Design" (or "Dry Design") to emphasize the simplicity and dry humor of the finished objects. Recognizing a common design goal, Bakker and Ramakers made Droog a brand as well as a tongue-in-cheek design philosophy. Read More Why We Love Droog DesignsSince then, Droog has come to represent the best of Dutch design. As a conceptual design company, Droog continues to swim against the mainstream even while looking to create home accessories, furniture and lighting products with far-reaching consumer appeal.
For Droog, the most important issue is a design's content-its story-with subtle layers of meaning that are either made explicit by the designer or left open to personal interpretation. It is a philosophy that has worked well, considering the success of Droog designs like the Sticky Lamp, the Bottoms Up Doorbell and the Clothes Hanger Lamp. Through Droog, Bakker and Ramakers continue on with experimental, high-concept lighting and home furnishing design. As such, while the Droog design philosophy has evolved to encompass a more "normal," or universal approach to design, they continuously endeavor to push the boundaries of what normal means, both now and in the future. As part of their daily operations, the experimental Droog design lab and Creative Agency persist in the search to define the next generation of design. Lumens carries the complete line of Droog products at guaranteed low pricing. If you don't see the product you want, please Contact Us or call us at 877.445.4486.
