The Ingo Maurer Knitterling Pendant was designed by Maurer in 1978 to create a unique play of light and shadow with a simple flared shade. This is made possible by the material from which the shade is made: white, crinkled Japanese paper. Appearing soft and subtle when the light is turned off, the crinkled paper's true depth of texture is only fully revealed when illuminated.

For more than 40 years Ingo Maurer has created somewhat irreverent and thought-provoking designs in a method that is more exo-modern than contemporary. These experimentalist collections enliven fashion runways, monuments and private homes, giving Ingo Maurer lighting a name that resounds in the minds of the design-forward.

The Knitterling paper is intentionally crinkled. This material reacts to fluctuations in humidity. Therefore, changes in the rigidity of the shade cannot be prevented. This lamp is not suited for environments with high humidity.
