This kind of do-whatever-feels-good approach to design is exactly what makes Adler's designs accessible to so many. Partnered with fine lighting manufacturer Robert Abbey, Inc., the Jonathan Adler lighting collection in particular has proven very popular.

One point in the Jonathan Adler manifesto reads, "We believe our lamps will make you look younger and thinner." While that is left in the eye of the beholder, Jonathan Adler lamps certainly add much to decor, using modernist forms, bright, bold colors and funky graphic prints. This is especially evident in the Jonathan Adler Meurice collection, with its modern take on bamboo, or the rustic luxury of the Ventana collection.

Adler's artistic inclinations began with his childhood discovery of and subsequent obsession with pottery. When Barneys New York commissioned his pots in the mid-1990s, this hobby blossomed into a career. Adler eventually opened his own store and expanded his creative eye into interior design and the design of home furnishings. As a testament to his success, he nabbed a spot as a judge on Bravo channel's "Top Design" in 2007.

Always gregarious, never boring, and never one to take himself or design too seriously, Jonathan Adler is bound to be around for many years to come.
