Transitional Wall Sconces

The appeal of the transitional home is that it is always in style. Known to not overwhelm the senses and as a simple way to decorate the home, transitional lighting combines traditional with modern, creating a pleasing hybrid full of clean lines, smooth shapes and a look that transcends trends. Transitional wall sconces add to this appeal by accenting the room with a layer of light that is soothing and welcoming. Most useful by an outside door to welcome guests, or in a foyer or down a hallway, transitional style wall sconces work just about everywhere. The neutral tone of many transitional style wall sconces and fixtures in general allow them to blend in and to each individually add to the comfort and warmth of the room, without standing out or making a statement. That is not to say no fixture should make a statement, though. Crystal wall sconces come in a variety of looks and are an ideal choice as a piece to stand out in the room, creating a display of light as it diffuses through the crystal glass.

Other Considerations

Transitional sconces are no exception to the most important rule of adding a new fixture to the home – measuring. Ensure the dimensions of the piece work with the room, providing enough empty space between other fixtures to prevent a cluttered look. For those sconces going outside, make sure they meet the location rating, either wet or damp, to determine if it can be exposed to direct water or only indirectly, such as under an awning or covered patio. Dark Sky compliance may also need to be met, so, check the fixture’s features for that.

If the wall sconces in the room are to satisfaction and the room needs another layer of light to look complete, consider transitional drum pendant lighting as well. Pendant can be arranged either as a single unit or in a linear arrangement. Pendants can add a comforting and more direct layer of light over kitchen counters and islands or in a foyer as a single unit than the accent-oriented nature of sconces.
