If looking for a traditional look for the home, consider adding classic wall sconces. Classic lighting fixtures focus on displaying a throwback look to the Victorian era with complex and regal-looking silhouettes. Many also have exposed bulbs and simple geometry with thick metal that reminds of industrial style. Vintage wall sconces in particular can be used to provide a throwback to a different era as it mounts near a front door to introduce the style of the home to family, friends and guests. Like other wall sconces, antique wall sconces provide an additional layer of light to the room, sometimes more than a modern wall sconce thanks to the possibility of exposed bulbs. Great for a foyer, or down a hallway, these sconces can bring necessary light to darker parts of the home, enhancing the mood or making a statement while taking up minimal wall space.

Other Considerations

Classic wall sconces, like other wall sconces, need to be measured to ensure the proper dimensions work with the room. Too small or too big or placed in the wrong spot on the wall can cause a clash and the opposite intended effect, even if more light is added to the room. For outdoor sconces, perhaps the most important aspect to check is the location rating to make sure it is appropriate for the space. A wet rating allows for the fixture to be exposed directly to the water, while a damp rating is only for being in the same environment as the water, such as under a covered patio.

If the classic or antique look of the wall sconce is appealing, also consider traditional pendant lighting. These traditional pendants evoke the same style and part of human history, but hang low from the ceiling. Ranging from complex to simple, pendant lights can be a viable option in a room as a single unit or in a grouping, such as a linear arrangement. Pendants can also create a focused beam of light or a general layer throughout the room, depending on the needs of the room and the other fixtures present.
