Like the giant red star by the same, the Scraplights Arcturus Pendant from Graypants bursts with rays of inspiring light. The piece commands every eye in the room, day and night, as ringed layers of recycled cardboard culminate into a celestial form. Each ring is laser-cut to the perfect shape then bonded meticulously by hand for the stunning result. A glass diffuser peaks out the opening of the globe; its tempered and sandblaster surfaces mellows out the downpouring light. When turned on, bulbs inside carve out glowing slices of ambient light across the sphere, leaving behind a moving design of shadowed striations.
Founded in 2007 in Seattle, Washington, Graypants is the creative brainchild of architects Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker. Known for their acclaimed first line of pendant lights made entirely of repurposed cardboard, Graypants has matured into an industrial and product design studio with a diverse portfolio of lighting focused on responsible production.
