The Ron Arad Story
Originally trained as an architect, Arad accidentally (and almost instantly) established himself as a furniture designer in 1981 with the Rover Chair (made out of tubular steel scaffolding and a Rover 2000 car seat he found at a scrap yard).
Since then he's been able to parlay his creative vision into great commercial and critical success through his company Ron Arad Associates, creating products for big design brands like Alessi, Ingo Maurer, Kartell, Nanimarquina, Driade and Vitra. Meanwhile, his architectural designs and art installations are exhibited to great acclaim around the world.
Why We Love Ron Arad
Among the most influential designers of our time, Ron Arad stands out for his daring curiosity about form, structure, technology, and materials, as well as for the versatile nature of his work. At the forefront of contemporary art and architecture, Arad also reinterprets established archetypes of furniture, lighting and other home accessories, manipulating their form and experimenting with unexpected materials to create pieces of singular distinction. For that, there is no question that Arad looks at things differently than most people, hoping that creations such as his will change others' perspectives as well.
Noteworthy Products from Ron Arad
Arad's initial intention with his work was to produce things that people both needed and could afford. Therefore, in his creation of home furnishings and accessories, Arad's manipulation of form and intent of affordable usefulness is evident in pieces like the Alessi Babyboop Dish and his signature Bookworm Shelf by Kartell.
In His Own Words
"I want to design for the things themselves. There's no one who I’d love to design for."
