Modern Pendant Lighting
Whether looking for a simple piece that will blend in with the home or an iconic piece for making a statement, today’s modern pendant lighting designs have plenty to choose from. Modern pendant lights add to the home by often not immediately standing out, but becoming realized over time. The simple form of many modern hanging lights, either as a single unit or in a row or cluster with matching fixtures, accents the interior of the home, bringing an additional layer of light. In particular, modern pendant lighting for a kitchen island can transform the kitchen space and help elevate nearby fixtures, furniture and appliances. Conversely, modern chandeliers often are introduced to the home in order to stand out, providing more form than function. Like modern wall sconces, contemporary pendant lights can bring a sense of flow to the space, helping to unite the décor rather than stand out on their own.
Other Considerations
Before selecting any fixture, make sure the dimensions work for the space. Too small or too large and the pendant, no matter how well it matches with the home, will clash. Similarly, when mounting multiple units over a countertop, bar or kitchen island, make sure there is enough space between each piece so as not to make the space feel cluttered. Another important aspect is the ability to mount the fixture outdoors. If transforming the outdoor space is the idea, ensure the fixture is rated either for damp or wet locations, allowing it to be placed near (but out of) water or directly in the path of water, respectively. When updating the fixtures of a room or adding new fixtures to it, keep in mind the layers of light that will be present. Light should guide the eyes while filling the room with an even touch, blending together seamlessly. Try not to overwhelm the space with too much light, or ensure each layer present is only used for certain times of day or moods.
