The Lithonia Lighting parent company, Acuity Brands, has encouraged the best and brightest to pursue a career in lighting design with the Besal Lighting Education Fund. Established in 1983 in honor of former Lithonia VP Robert J. Besal, the Besal Fund has distributed more than $750,000 to potential lighting designers and engineers. In association with that, in 1987, the M.A. Woods Scholar of the Year prize was founded in the memory of another respected Lithonia VP, Mickey Woods.
