A daring design from SpaceCopenhagen, a firm founded by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou, it follows their philosophy of promoting curiosity through the balancing of opposite elements. The fixture starts with a heavy cylindrical base and rounded top that anchor a long, slender stem that travels up to switched, single-socket lamping under an ethereal shade, lightening in both mass and ambient brightness as it rises while nonetheless staying stable. It gets its name from the contrast of the sturdy base and airy shade.
In 2001, Jacob and Sebastian Gubi took over their parent’s furniture business, transforming GUBI in to an internationally recognized design house for lighting, furniture, and accessories. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, GUBI is a purveyor of timeless and emerging designs, many of which are iconic and can be found in permanent collections around the world.
