Originally designed in 1930 by Robert Dudley Best of England, the GUBI Bestlite BL2 Table Lamp is a design synonymous with European modernism in the 20th century. Influenced by the German Bauhaus school of thought, Best applied the idea that fine art and craft can coexist to the Bestlite, manifesting in a superbly crafted metal structure with absolute practicality. The smooth aluminum or brass shade seamlessly joins with the curved stem, angling the task light in a casual contrapposto stance. The iconic design is also known to be famously owned by Churchill and traveled with him during wartime.
In 2001, Jacob and Sebastian Gubi took over their parent’s furniture business, transforming GUBI in to an internationally recognized design house for lighting, furniture, and accessories. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, GUBI is a purveyor of timeless and emerging designs, many of which are iconic and can be found in permanent collections around the world.
