The Stonegate Designs Story
The roots of Stonegate Designs trace back to 1934, when William Carle founded Lake Shore Studios inside the architecture and design hub of the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. At the time, Carle was importing European porcelain vases and teapots, transforming them into lamps by finishing each with one-of-a-kind, hand-painted shades.
Fast forward to now, the still family run business continues to do what it’s always done – excelling in crafting high-quality luminaires for both residential and commercial environments. The company’s long-running and continued success was recognized in 2009 when it was awarded the 20th annual ARTS Award in the Manufacturer Lighting Fixture category.
In addition to their in-house creations, Stonegate works with outside designers to contribute their personalized take. Today that includes designers like Agnes & Hoss, Fusion Z, Gonzalo Gonzalez, Mitchel & Mitchel and Zia-Priven.
Why We Love Stonegate Lighting
The sheer variety--and quality--of shade color options provided by Stonegate Designs is staggering. These are the finest silk dupionis, crispest linens, most lustrous taffetas, in a rainbow of colors. More than that, these fabrics are also available in any variety of shapes, from simple drums and rectangles to multi-tiered rings and ellipsoids. Like a frame around a painting, the complementary frames and finishes of Stonegate lighting fixtures create true masterpieces of modern lighting.
A Fun Fact About Stonegate Designs
The unknown story of two pugs from her youth continues to tug at the imagination of designer Stephanie Waddell, and inspired the name of her design firm, Agnes & Hoss.
