Pad Outdoor was founded in 2007 by designer Eli Alexander Bonerz. Considering he lived in a house designed by noted modernist architect Richard Neutra--and worked out of the former architecture office of mid-century pioneer Gregory Ain--it only made sense that the influence of southern California modernism would be essential to Pad's aesthetics and ethos.
In 2008 Pad introduced the POD line of indoor/outdoor planters, which have since become the focus of their product line. Distinguished by their bright colors and contemporary forms, Pad Outdoor planters are also notable for being locally manufactured of hand spun recyclable aluminum that is painted with a non-toxic powder coat, making them as earth-friendly as they are...well, just friendly.
Why We Love Pad Outdoor
If a plant could be considered a work of art, then a Pad Outdoor planter turns it into a veritable masterpiece. The pots are fun yet sophisticated, with rounded mod shapes and similarly mod colors to complement any plant and surrounding decor. Beyond allowing for staggered heights in clustered arrangements, the stands available with certain models make Pad Outdoor pots especially well-suited for outdoor use by keeping them elevated to forego rot (on wood rails or decks) and insect infestation--things that can certainly detract from the beauty of the pots as well as their plants.
A Fun Fact About Pad Outdoor
Before starting Pad Outdoor, Eli Alexander Bonerz was the art director and co-founder for the pioneering streetwear brand X-LARGE. Starting in the early 1990’s and continuing to this day X-LARGE was recently listed as one of the top ten most influential street wear brands by Complex magazine.
