Originally part of an art installation in 1997, Ron Arad was able to come up with a version of the Tom Vac Chair suitable for mass production in less than two years. While the distinctive seat shell was originally made out of vacuum-formed aluminum, a transition to more flexible polypropylene proved more comfortable. The Vitra Miniature T. Vac Chair is also made out of plastic, and also duplicates the chromed steel base.
