The Libratone Story
Libratone is a Copenhagen-based audio company that was founded in 2009 with just one goal: to liberate sound. The challenge was to effectively combine the best wireless technology with quality hi-fi and wrap it all up in a clean Scandinavian design. The resulting line of speakers meet that criteria by connecting to devices wirelessly and producing rich, clear sound with specialty FullRoom acoustic technology. It is that all-around sound that makes Libratone 360 Scandinavian.
Setting the Libratone speakers apart visually are their sleek shapes and colorful range of soft, crisply upholstered wool covers. Those fuzzy covers have since become the signature design element for the entire line of Libratone speakers.
Why We Love Libratone
The recent launch of 360 Scandinavian highlights Libratone's devotion to high-quality surround sound, as well as the holistic Scandinavian mindset that such sound is meant to be shared. With that, Libratone breaks away from traditional hi-fi archetypes, designing speakers that pair a soft touch with a smooth sound, color with convenience. This makes the speakers as much decorative design pieces as they are technologically superior wireless sound systems (and likely the only speakers you'll ever feel compelled to pet repeatedly). While initially designed for compatibility with Apple products via AirPlay, Libratone speakers now also feature DLNA support, making them suitable for use with PCs and Android devices as well as iPods, iPhones or Macs.
A Fun Fact About Libratone
Libratone's logo is a drawing of a singing nightingale. It was inspired by the fairy tale "The Nightingale," written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, in which a nightingale's song saves the life of an emperor. The fanciful image is meant to evoke the clarity and purity of sound that comes from a singing bird, as well as its sense of freedom.

As the most portable piece in the Libratone family, the Zipp Speaker is the epitome of the Libratone 360 Scandinavian design philosophy. This petite cylinder is less than a foot tall and five inches around, but puts out a big, all-around sound. Zipp is available packaged with a full wardrobe: a range of three outer covers that zip on or off as needed to dress appropriately for any occasion.
