The FLOS Story
Brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Tobia Scarpa began the FLOS venture in 1962 in Merano, northern Italy, creating contemporary lighting fixtures with artistic verve. Experimenting in new techniques, they made design history with their unique cocoon-like fixtures created by spraying resin over a steel structure.
The partnership soon acquired the talents of Sergio Gandini, who moved the company to Brescia in 1964. The first FLOS store opened in Milan just four years later. FLOS acquired Arteluce in 1974 and is currently run by Sergio's son.
Why We Love FLOS Lighting
FLOS offers a structurally creative alternative to the every day suspension. Going beyond mere function, FLOS fixtures are high concept, quality Italian lighting fixtures that really serve as works of art, some of which have even become icons in the contemporary lighting field. The company is built upon the strong concepts of international designers Patricia Urquiola, Paolo Rizzatto, Philippe Starck and many more.
Fun Facts About FLOS
FLOS has joined the past with the present, lighting holy sights in Italy like the Church Castelferretti, the Duomo Cremona, and the Basilica S. Clemente with modern suspensions and pendants.
