The Matthews Fans Story
Chuck Matthews founded the Matthews Fan company in his home town of Chicago in 1992. Marketing their products under the brand names, "Matthews-Gerbar" and "Atlas," Matthews' goal is to build visually appealing and superbly functioning ceiling and wall fans with identifiable personality.
Matthews-Gerbar branded products are distinctively hand-made in both Brazil and the United States, while those by Atlas Fans are lovingly mass-produced off-shore.
Why We Love Matthews Fans
Matthews Fan Company ceiling fans, designed in a retrospective aesthetic, offer a strong decorative element. Their many rotating and oscillating designs pair contemporary elements like polished chrome, brushed nickel and black nickel finishes to modern metal-work design and the more traditional bronze, brass and copper finishes to solid mahogany wood blades. These ceiling fans function well in older buildings to establish a theme, but they're also fantastic (no pun intended!) for new homes and remodels for that punch of period fashion.
A Fun Fact About Matthews Fans
Matthews rotational ceiling fans rotate because of the angular momentum created by the fan motors; this momentum is then regulated by a centrifugal brake. There is no motor in the central housing to create the axial rotation!
Noteworthy Fans from Matthews Fans
The Atlas Acqua rotational ceiling fan is designed to resemble the molecular structure of water, and the Brisa rotational ceiling fan resembles satellites orbiting a planet. This rotational fan, with only one fan head, is truly in a class of its own!
